The long serving member was recognised for his
achievements as a mine rescuer at the Hunter Valley Mines Rescue
Station's annual dinner last Saturday.He
was shocked to discover it had been nearly four decades when told he
would be acknowledged for his
contribution.First starting out as a brigadesman at the station, he joined the mines rescue as a cadet mine surveyor in 1967.For the past 40 years he has worked in the mining industry, has competed in 10 years of mines rescue competition at a local level and national level and has been a member of three successful teams to take out the Australian Underground Mines Rescue Competition.He
has also spent many years on the board as an organiser and assessor of local Hunter Valley competitions.
These days, the Xstrata

likes to take a more relaxed approach to the physical side of events, taking the time to admire from the sidelines.
