Dr. Val Chambers, managing director of the Eureka Press and President of the Arts College located in Mandeville, also believes that the Jamaican personality is particularly volatile.
"The Jamaican personality is as prone to laughter as it is to anger. But the Jamaican anger is brief, and easily relieved. Our sense of community is extremely weak. That is why we are capable of anger, but not shame...for our constant inability to make it as a people we feel angry - angry about our brothers, our betters, or our inferiors; but we have no sense of responsibility, no shame that we are not a better people."
Some schools of thought believe that Jamaicans are a naturally violent people because of rumours that 'the more violent African slaves were dropped off here', or the theory that black people have higher testosterone levels and are more prone to violence than other ethnic groups.
