Dr Vishwa Mohan Katoch
Vishwa Mohan Katoch (MBBS, MD) is Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
He joined ICMR as a Talent Search Schemes (TSS) Fellow and was posted at National JALMA Institute for Leprosy & other Mycobacterial Diseases, an institute of ICMR at Agra, in 1978.
He became Director of the institute in 2001 and was selected as First Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Health Research, and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare before becoming Director General of ICMR in 2008.
has published over 247 research papers on various aspects such as different taxonomy markers, in-vitro viability methods, and molecular mechanisms of drug resistance.
current interests are molecular mechanisms of drug resistance, molecular epidemiology and genomics on which, until recently, he
was conducting studies.
achievements are awards such as Sher-I-Kashmir Sheikh Mohd Abdualla Oration award, Dr C G S Iyer Oration award, Erwin Stindll Memorial Oration award and Dr S C Agarwal Oration award.
is also the recipient of the Ranbaxy Science Foundation Award 2003.
