Tyler Tokioka to Lead Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii Board of Directors
Honolulu - The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i (JCCH) is proud to announce the appointment of its new chairman of the board of directors, Tyler Tokioka, for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
Tokioka replaces former Chairman Curt Otaguro, who served as chairman of the board since July 1, 2010.
Tokioka first became involved with the Cultural Center in 2002 when he joined the JCCH board of governors.
He served on the board for four years before taking the lead as chairman.
During his service on the board of governors, Tokioka headed the committees of many of the center's most notable events including the New Year's 'Ohana Festival and the annual gala.
After serving six years on the board of governors, Tokioka accepted a seat on the JCCH board of directors.
During his term on the board of directors, he served as chair of the board's Fundraising Committee and as vice chair on the Executive Committee.
"Tyler Tokioka is the right person to lead the board in the coming year as we look to develop new programs, increase membership and expand our outreach to the neighbor islands," said Carole Hayashino, president/executive director of the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i.

Tokioka is currently vice president - external affairs for Island Insurance Companies.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington and a Master's in Business Administration from New York University Stern School of Business.
He is a graduate of Punahou School.
In addition to his service to JCCH, Tokioka is also a board member of the CPCU Society Hawai'i Chapter, the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce, 'Ahahui Koa ?nuenue, ' hi'a Productions, and 'Olelo.

The board of directors consists of 19 community leaders from O'ahu, Maui, Kaua'i and Hawai'i counties who lead the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai'i
by establishing policies and strategic direction.
Each director either chairs and /or is a member of the Executive committee, Governance committee, Membership Development committee, Fundraising committee, Facilities & Operations committee, and Budget & Finance committee.
The board members are elected by the membership as a whole, with the exception of the HJCC
perpetual member who is appointed by the HJCC
The Board of Directors for the fiscal year 2012-2013 includes Tyler Tokioka, chair, Diane Murakami treasurer/vice chair; Howard Hanada, secretary/vice chair; Glenn Inouye, vice chair, Gordon Kagawa, vice chair, Brennon Morioka, vice chair; Eugene Nishimura, vice chair; and at-large directors, Dawn Matsuyama Dunbar, David Erdman, Dennis Esaki, Kyoko Kimura, Michele Sunahara Loudermilk, Leigh-Ann Miyasato, Lance Mizumoto, Diane Murakami, Ken Niimura, Lynne Hanzawa O'Neill, Curt Otaguro, and Christine Yano.
