:: CRC deepens credit bureau with 'CRC monitor and alerts' launch - CRC Credit Bureau :: [cached]

According to Tunde Popoola, CEO, CRC Credit Bureau Limited, the challenge confronting most of the banks is how to reduce their risk portfolio given the bad debts they incurred these past years, especially at a time they have more risk assets.
Thankfully, he said, the CRC Credit Bureau has been able to develop full-proof measures that can help the banks contain the incidence of bad debts. At the risk of sounding immodest, Popoola said what banks need to do to reduce the incidence of bad debts was to be more circumspect in the way they spread risks. "Most of the toxic debts within the banking sector happened because they were done without proper due diligence analysis, as it were. But that can be taken care of with our products and services like I-CON Plus, which can help to build a good credit industry," he said.

:: Banks may deny telecoms, electricity debtors credit facilities - CRC Credit Bureau :: [cached]

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, CRC Credit Bureau, Mr. Tunde Popoola, told our correspondent in an exclusive interview that the telecoms firms and the electricity distribution companies were submitting the information of those who had enjoyed their post-paid services without paying.
According to him, all the information will be kept in the database and used to assess the credit worthiness of the organisations or individuals involved by the utility companies and other financial and non-financial institutions when fresh lending services are requested for. Popoola said, "The information submitted is borrowers' information or the list of people who have enjoyed post-paid services with telecoms companies because it is a form of credit. They are using the services ahead of payment.

:: Lack of accurate biometrics hindering operations of credit rating bureaux - CRC Credit Bureau :: [cached]

The Managing Director, CRC Credit Bureau, Mr Tunde Popoola, has attributed dearth of accurate biometrics database and awareness as factors hindering credit bureau operations in the country.
Popoola told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Lagos that decision making would have been quicker and more reliable if lenders had enough information about borrowers at their disposal. He said that accurate database would accelerate automation of lending processes, isolate bad borrowers and blacklist chronic debtors. Popoola also said that awareness creation would deepen knowledge of financial sector operators to understand credit bureau services. He advised that there should be concerted efforts by the regulators to encourage non-banking firms to engage in the services.

:: Nigeria Credit Bureaus Reposition To Serve Informal Sector - CRC Credit Bureau :: [cached]

The Managing Director of CRC Credit Bureau, Tunde Popoola has said that the credit bureaus in Nigeria are focusing on incorporating the informal sector in the scope of their activities.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television's programme, Business Morning, Mr Popoola said the establishment of credit bureaus and commencement of operations by the pioneers is responsible for the confidence with which Nigerian banks now embrace consumer lending. He said all the commercial banks in Nigeria are using the credit bureau but "beyond that, we've now moved on to other sectors all the discount houses have joined, the microfinance banks are joining, mortgage banks, leasing companies, all of these are joining now." Mr Popoola said what some of the bureaus are doing now is looking for other data beyond data from the banks "by moving to travel agency business, pharmaceutical businesses, the retailers."
