Murata commercializes crystal unit for wearable electronics and computing -Supports Wireless Communication such as Wi-Fi/Bluetooth® and Radio Frequency/Base Band-
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has commercialized a 2016-size (2.0 x 1.6 mm) crystal unit*1 (XRCGD series) . With a frequency precision of ±20 ppm, it is able to support the wireless communications indispensable for mobile devices, including Wi-Fi/Bluetooth® and RadioFrequency/BaseBand.
The product was developed jointly with Tokyo Denpa Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "Tokyo Denpa") , which became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Murata on August 1 of this year.
Murata will be exhibiting this innovative crystal unit at their booth in "CEATEC JAPAN 2013", which will be held from October 1.
Murata first commercialized the HCR (Hybrid CRystal) in 2009, after developing it jointly with Tokyo Denpa. While Murata's ceramic resonators remain popular in automotive and consumer applications, the introduction of the HCR has allowed Murata to expand into the HDD market, where higher precision is required.

Murata to acquire Crystal Devi - Kendyn International Co. Ltd.

Murata to acquire Crystal Devi
...
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (Murata) implemented a share exchange with Tokyo Denpa Co., Ltd. (TEW) effective August 1, 2013 pursuant to a share exchange agreement executed with TEW on February 13, 2013, and as a result, Murata became the wholly-owning parent company of TEW, and TEW became the wholly-owned subsidiary of Murata. As a result of the share exchange, Murata acquired crystal device products and technologies, and going forward, Murata will work to expand this product lineup and reinforce the development, production, and sale of crystal devices.
"I welcome personnel from TEW, a time-honored company, as members of the Murata group, and look forward to tackling the challenges of the future together. " Tsuneo Murata, President of Murata said.
...
The two companies determined that in order to increase their synergy effects and weather today's challenging economic environment, making TEW a wholly-owned subsidiary of Murata would be optimal for building the essential strong business structures that can fully leverage Murata's and TEW's combined resources including development, manufacturing, sales, marketing, and management and speed up decision-making.
To substantially increase the corporate value of both companies, three main business synergies will be pursued:
Increasing the production capacity of crystal and other products to respond to rapidly increasing demand. Introducing on a major scale Murata's manufacturing technologies, supply chain management capabilities, and marketing techniques at TEW to strengthen its ability to meet supply and demand and, in turn, maximize earnings. Utilizing Murata's sales channels to the fullest extent in the near future in order to market and expand sales of TEW's products globally; leveraging a wide-ranging product lineup to develop new clients and further expand Murata's and TEW's marketing and sales.

Murata to start mass production of 200 Watt non-isolated DC-DC converter for Terra Motor's new A4000i electric scooter
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. will start mass production of non-isolated DC-DC converters*1 for electric scooters. The converter has been adopted by Tokyo-based Terra Motors Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Toru Tokushige) for use in its new electric scooter.
As it looks to emerging markets as part of its medium-term management plan*2, Murata is committed to strengthening its marketing to better understand local needs, and to delivering new products and solutions to meet the features required by its customers.
While scooters are now widely used for daily transportation in emerging countries, they face problems such as high gasoline prices and environmental pollution caused by exhaust. As a result, electric scooters are expected to grow in popularity in coming years. In this context, Murata has developed a non-isolated DC-DC converter for the new A4000i electric scooter from Terra Motors, a venture company engaged in the manufacture and sale of electric scooters. This component will enable power from the scooter's battery to be used for auxiliary equipment such as headlights by stepping it down from 48V to 12V. In the future, Murata plans to expand its lineup beyond electric scooters to three- and four-wheeled compact electric vehicles.
Developed using the reliability-centered design techniques that Murata has cultivated for the automotive industry over the years, this DC-DC converter is sturdy enough to be used with confidence on the rugged roads in emerging countries. Murata was also able to engineer the converter to be highly efficient and compact thanks to its simple non-isolated design. It also features a 5V output that can handle a USB power supply and similar extras, all from a single small package.
Murata will be exhibiting this innovative chip ferrite beads at their booth in "CEATEC JAPAN 2013", which will be held from October 1.
...
With respect to new applications, the three major areas where Murata is promoting its technologies, products, and solutions are the automobile, healthcare, and environment/energy sectors.
