WAC Trainer: Troy Dega
Troy Dega was recommended as a Trainer based on his vast experience swimming competitively and with coaching swimmers of all levels, including adult beginners like myself. Troy is part psychologist, part physicist, and part philosopher. The psychologist knows that the greatest challenge in learning to swim is to overcome the very powerful instincts and preconceptions that we have. The physicist knows that adopting proper techniques, adopting good body mechanics and swimming efficiently, is the key to overcoming these psychological challenges. The philosopher reminds us that perfection is not a destination but a lifelong journey, and that we always need to review where we are, to "unlearn what we have learned," in order to become incrementally better. Because of Troy, not only have I overcome my fears and learned an essential life skill, but I have also discovered an activity that I enjoy doing far more than I had ever expected I would. I am forever grateful to Troy for that.
