"New York has a very technical style," says Trixie Lovett.
"Clean lines." A former Las Vegas stripper, Lovett, 42, teaches pole in Hilo, Hawaii. A judge for Pole Dance America, she curates a studio listing at polenation.com and says there's so many competitions - each one weighing dancers on criteria such as style and points of contact with the pole - that she could find one happening almost every weekend this summer.

Trixie Lovett*
Trixie Lovett started dancing later in life than most trained dancers. She began her career as an exotic dancer in Oregon in her mid-twenties, and continued to dance when she relocated to Las Vegas in 1997. Having more opportunities to dance, Trixie began working with Fawnia Dietrich at Pole Fitness Studio, where she was the lead instructor. (Now Trixie travels in from Hawaii offering specialty workshops and LDIC Lap Dane Instructors Certification.) Trixie's favorite classes are Spinning Pole, because of the challenge it presents to dancers, and Cougar Pole which is geared for the "more mature" dancer. Trixie brings her expertise to many competitions by judging pole events and at the state level. She is an AFAA nationally certified Personal Trainer, and is fascinated by anatomy and the body's movement. She has been featured on several local news channels and in the newspaper USA Today. In her free time Trixie enjoys being a wife to husband Christopher, an electrical engineer. She also enjoys her two adult children and adores her three pot-bellied pigs. Trixie practices yoga when she's off the pole. Trixie Lovett

I had so much fun and enjoyed my lessons with such a nice and funny girl like Trixie who was very patient and explained clearly every move step by step even to someone speaking American language not so well.

Trixie Lovett, the coordinator and judge of the event, wasn't surprised: The reaction she was getting before the competition was mostly confusion.
"We just asked people to have an open mind when they come in and be prepared to be wowed," said Lovett, who is also a pole dancer in Las Vegas. The women, who ranged in age from 16 to 33, trained hard for Sunday night's competition, Lovett said. All of the girls got into pole dancing for different reasons, she said.
