The family life center, named for the man who was pastor at the church from 1976 to 1992, is situated on the north side of the Bogalusa church's property, which is located on Highway 21, Pastor Travis Houston said.

The status of the construction is that the red iron has been put up, Houston said. Next, the sheeting will be put around the sides of the building and the roof will be installed, he said. After that, the frame for the coffee shop will go up, he said.
Advertisement "Then it's time to raise some more money, because we're building debt-free," he said.
In terms of the timeframe for the project to be completed, Houston said he is "shooting for summer of 2012. He hopes that by that time, 90 percent of construction will be finished and that the coffee shop will be open for business.
The coffee shop will serve all of Starbucks' drinks and pastries, and the cups, menus and signs on the interior of the store will feature the coffee chain's logo, Houston said.
"When you walk in, it will be just like you walked in a Starbucks in New Orleans or Covington," or any other place, he said.
While Holy Grounds' billboards, flyers and business cards can display the Starbucks logo, the exterior of the building cannot, Houston said.
"Now, as far as having the green logo on the outside of the building, that's not something they're going to allow," he said.
Starbucks' regional director will be providing a two-day training session for the Holy Grounds staff on things like customer service and preparing the drinks, Houston said.
Wireless Internet access will be available in the coffee shop, Houston said.
The coffee shop will be open to the public, while the family life center will be for members of the church, Houston said. However, groups in the community - other churches, for example - will be able to rent out the center "for a nominal fee," he said.
In addition to restrooms and a couple of offices, the family life center will include "a full basketball court; four bowling lanes; a game room with pool tables, ping pong, foosball (and) arcade games; and fitness rooms," Houston said.
When Houston moved to Bogalusa, he said, he saw there was a "need to build something for people to do. In building the family life center and coffee shop, he said his "main goal is just to get people together (to) create camaraderie (and) fellowship."
"If I can get them in that coffee shop and in that family life center, I stand a greater chance of getting them across the parking lot into the sanctuary," he said. Print this story Post A Comment
