As Senior Research Associate at WestEd, Tracy Huebner oversees the development of the Gates Knowledge Center for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Knowledge Center provides timely information to Gates staff to enhance their understanding of issues related to secondary reform and college readiness. This information is submitted to the Foundation in the form of written memos and a biweekly research digest.
A member of the agency's Innovation Studies Program, Huebner also serves as the principal author of a series of reports for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. These Rethinking High School reports examine successful high schools nationwide and analyze high school reforms in action.
The initial Rethinking High School study, conducted in 2004, analyzed outcome data and profiled five innovative and successful high schools funded by the Gates Foundation. The thoughtful and analytic approach of this study, led by Huebner, inspired the Foundation to commission more profiles. As such, Huebner led the production of four additional reports that highlight schools focused on keeping students in school and preparing all students to be college-ready. Huebner and colleagues will soon release a report on Texas' state and local efforts of secondary reform and college readiness.
Previously, Huebner worked at the Harvard Children's Initiative as a lecturer and researcher on complex evaluations for school-based programs.
Huebner received an MA and PhD in education from Stanford University and completed postdoctoral work at Harvard University as a Spencer Fellow in Education.
