Tracy Hetman, Past President
career as an ASL-English Interpreter in 1981.
She began working at the University of Alberta in January, 1990 as a freelance interpreter.
In the fall of 1994 she was hired as the Coordinator of Communication Support Services and Student Advisor for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
As Coordinator, she
contracts the services of community interpreters and CART providers (who provide realtime transcribing services).
provides interpreting services as needed and, in addition, she
organizes communication support services for University of Alberta
In 2003 Tracy also took on the responsibilities of Manager, Operations at SSDS.
As a result her
focus has shifted to management and supervisory duties resulting in less time in the classroom providing direct interpreting services to students in programs.
From 1988 - 2000 Tracy served in a variety of volunteer Board positions with AVLIC and has returned this term to assist with committee liaison support and some additional duties.
