In receiving notification of the honor, Grand Ridge athletic director Tony Gurganus said he was very proud.
"This is an award won by the entire athletic program and school," said Gurganus, who has been athletic director at Grand Ridge for three years.
Gurganus is the girls softball coach.

According to Grand Ridge High School coach Tony Gurganus, the town placed a bid for the tournament in Sept., 2003, and let the state Dixie Boys organization know they were interested in hosting the event.

received a unanimous vote that gave them host duties for the event.
"We've got a nice ballpark in Grand Ridge
and so we thought we'd try to get the tournament down here," Gurganus
Several individuals and groups are now working together to prepare for the event, as Gurganus
says meetings are being held every other week and committees are being put in place.
"We are all working really closely together," he
said."Some committees are already working towards the state tournament."
said that plans are already well underway to prepare the Grand Ridge
facilities for the event, as the town will be renovating both the concession stand and the bathrooms located at the ballpark in Grand Ridge.He
said that work will also be done on the baseball fields and other small things will be taken care of prior to the week of the event.
"There is some work to be done, just like with anybody hosting a state tournament," Gurganus
added that fundraisers will also be held before the event and contributors are already stepping forward to help out.

"We have four quality teams coming to play in this tournament and we think this is an excellent opportunity for the kids to get to play somebody besides themselves," he
