Emergency care following a road crash, 5 Sept 2009 [cached]
Dr Anthony Bleetman, Consultant in Accident and Emergency Medicine at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital said: "Ambulance crews will usually take multiple-injured patients to the right hospital, not necessarily the nearest hospital. There is little point in taking a severely injured victim to a small hospital with no senior doctors, CT scanner, intensive care unit or surgical team. Dr Bleetman added that emergency care had improved significantly in recent years across the UK. "Nationally, there have been moves to bring trauma care up to a high standard," he said.
