Governor Godswill Akpabio's relation and former his former Personal Assistant, Prince Ukpong Akpabio abducted a man simply identified as Uche and slapped Uruan Council Chairman, Mr. Tony Akan in an ensuing night club brawl in the wee hours of Thursday, 20th June, 2013. The dark-skinned dude was at Play Terrace, a popular exclusive night club for a Wednesday night party. On getting drunk, Prince left his table where he was hanging out with some girls, to another table where he started touching sensitive body parts the girls there. Some of the girls whom he was caressing who knew who he is kept mute without saying no to his advances.

Hon. Anthony Akan has put machineries in motion to take over as the executive Chairman of Uruan.
Hon Akan made this known during a media parley in Uyo recently. He agreed that with his wealth of experience as a two-time Transition Committee Chairman, he will transform the area in line with the transformation agenda of the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
Hon. Akan said that he believed in empowering the people instead of harnessing wealth to himself. Giving the score card of his past achievement in the council, he noted with satisfaction his ability to unite the people in view of the apparent political differences and divisions experienced in the past.
The Chairmanship hopeful noted that as Transition Chairman, he has renovated the Council Secretariat and turned it to the status of a local government secretariat which was hitherto abandoned by previous administrations.
Stating his programmes if emerged as the Executive Chairman, he listed out some of his cardinal projects to include the available of portable water to the people; linking all villages to electricity; ensuring that every Uruan child goes to school. Others according to him include youth and human development.
He thanked the state governor; Chief Godswill Akpabio for finding him fit to serve again in that capacity and urged the people of Uruan to support his aspiration as he will never disappoint them.

In the address of the Transition Committee Chairman of Uruan, Mr Anthony Jude Akan, presented by the Secretary, Obong Asuquo Udoh, the Chairman, while lauding the contribution of the US embassy to the projects, noted that the generality of Uruan people and Nung Ikono Ufok in particular stand to benefit immensely from the projects. Also speaking, the Secretary-General/Project Director, Nung Ikono Ufok Pioneer Fishing Muti-Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd/ Nung Ikono UfokCommunity Development Association, Elder Chrisanthus E. Efiong, thanked the United States embassy for its strong financial assistance through its Ambassador's Special Self-help Fund Program, which he noted, saw the projects through.

Speaking at Idu, headquarters of Uruan Local Government, the chairman of the transition committee, Mr Anthony Jude Akan, said the task of resettling the Bakassi returnees of Uruan origin had not been easy, considering the lean financial resources of the council. He called on the NBC officials to look into the plights of the returnees with a view to permanently resettling them.
