Knoxville, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Farragut High School baseball coach Tommy Pharr has taken over the same duties at Christian Academy of Knoxville.
CAK confirmed the move in a statement released early Tuesday evening. Pharr replaces Kent Matthews.
...
Pharr heads to CAK with some impressive credentials. In twelve seasons at Farragut, he coached the Admirals to five Class AAA state titles, three second place finishes, and in 2005 he was named the National Coach of the Year.
According to the CAK release, the Warriors "complete a multi-year search for a TSSAA-eligible head baseball coach."
In addition to the position of head baseball coach, Pharr will also serve CAK as the assistant athletic director and athletic field maintenance director.

Pharr was lucky at Farragut. Most of his players came there ready to play.

Coach Pharr is going to get paid. This rumor came about last year when some parents tried to put enough money together to get him to make a change and he didn't. Clearly they have made a great offer and the fact he doesn't "have" to teach there gives him more time to build his "program". And yes, it is the coach. FHS has had the talent there going back to the 80's. No offense to John Heatherly and Herkey Payne, but Tommy Pharr, they aren't even close.

Pharr is an excellent coach, and he has done tremendous things at Farragutt, but CAK offers him new challenges: going from the second best playing field in Knoxville (KCHS being first) to a cow pasture that doesn't even own tarps: leaving behind a teaching career in an overcrowded public school to what some have reported as not having to teach at all in the private sector leaving lots of time to work on the grounds, recruit, and study current game films: the ability to for his own personal children to obtain a private education something that was not affordable for a Knox Co educator lastly, the ability to build a new legend, on the same side of town, without having to relocate his family, and yes the additional coin in his pocket, because rumor has it that aspect was GOOD..... SO GOOD for COACH PHARR.... and lots of luck on his new endeavor (Oh and face it, all of those Farragut Pharr is God gurus, will have their kids sporting CAK uniforms by the beginning of next year)
...
Godspeed, Tommy.
...
Yes, but Pharr has accomplished great things while at Farragut. 5 championships in the last 7 years. Nationally ranked almost every year. Coach Pharr has won like 80% of his games while at Farragut and has I believe well over 400 wins. The baseball program at Farragut has changed dramatically since he has been there and it is still getting better. They are constantly doing new things to improve the field and facilities. The boosters have been able to do all of this because people want to be associated with Farragut baseball... why? Because Coach Pharr turned them into a championship machine. I thought if Pharr were ever to leave it would have been to a bigger job... not to a small local private school that hasn't accomplished anything in baseball.
