Inundated with donations and offers to help, Tommie Jo Marsilio, a former county commissioner, urged Mayor Rick Patrick to hold the community meeting Monday to consolidate charitable efforts and give business and property owners the legal and financial support they need to get back on their feet.
This is my hometown," said Marsilio, who rallied the crowd to their feet with each utterance of the G-men Pride. The assembly was led by Marsilio, Patrick and Superintendent Ted Lysiak, who announced that the school board will donate temporary space at the Intermediate School on Park Avenue to displaced business operators. All donations are to be funneled into an account and administered by a board of directors, Marsilio said.
Portage County Commissioner Tommie Jo Marsilio said she's glad commissioners worked out a deal for the center to get their old building.
"I think they are great people doing great things," she said.
Marsilio reappointed as CCAO director
Published: December 14, 2013 4:00AM Portage County Commissioner Tommie Jo Marsilio has been reappointed to serve a second one-year term on the Board of Directors of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio. The CCAO represents the 86 Ohio boards of county commissioners and the Cuyahoga and Summit County executives and councils. There are 35 members on the board of directors. Marsilio, who received her B.A. degree at Youngstown State University and a J.D. degree from Capital University Law School, was elected a Portage County commissioner in 2010. As the CCAO "works to bring the most innovative ideas and efficiencies to local government," Commissioner Marsilio said she is looking forward to continuing to assist the CCAO in representing Portage County at this level and working to foster cooperation at all levels of government.
Tommie Jo Marsilio is a Garrettsville native and James A. Garfield High School graduate who is running for Portage County Municipal Court Judge.
Marsilio and Brode are not endorsing one another, but say they have similar values and work ethics. Marsilio has been an assistant prosecutor for the Portage County Prosecutor's Office since 2007, as legal counsel for elected officials and county department heads regarding employment, collective bargaining, workers' compensation and contract compliance. She makes clear that her current service to Portage County comes before campaigning. Marsilio has also worked as a hearing officer for the Ohio Industrial Commission, adjudicating workers' compensation claims, and as a policy and research coordinator. She worked in the private sector as an associate attorney for Christley Herington & Pierce of Aurora where her clients included Portage County municipalities. Marsilio is a 1991 graduate of JAG High School. During her senior year, she was admitted to the combined degree program of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. During her undergraduate program at Youngstown State University, however, she decided to pursue a career in law rather than medicine. She earned a bachelor's degree from Youngstown State and a law degree from Capital University Law School in Columbus. With litigation experience including complex cases in Ohio, Illinois, Mississippi and Louisiana, Marsilio says, "I think the most important aspect about me as a candidate is that my experience is diverse.
