Kristina Borjesson and Tom Stalcup's 90-minute documentary, "Flight TWA 800", did just that.
Borjesson, a former producer with CBS News, NBC and ABC, wrote, directed and co- produced the film with Stalcup, a physicist and head of The Flight 800 Independent Researchers.
Stalcup has filed a petition with the NTSB that it reopen its investigation into the TWA 800 explosion. The petition was signed by Stalcup, and several people involved in the original NTSB investigation, including Hank Hughes, a retired NTSB investigator; Bob Young, a retired analyst for TWA; Jim Spear, an accident investigator for the Airlines Pilot Association, and at least a dozen members of the surviving families.
Torney, a retired nurse, subsequently received her citizenship and now appears with Borjoesson, Stalcup, Young, and Hughes at screenings to support the documentary's evidence.
"Tom, I certainly do think that if you had proven that the official version of TWA 800 was wrong, and came up with a persuasive alternative theory, it would be a big story," Shane said in his email.

"Of course, everyone knows about the eyewitness statements, but we also have corroborating information from the radar data, and the radar data shows a(n) asymmetric explosion coming out of that plane -- something that didn't happen in the official theory," Tom Stalcup told CNN's New Day.
But some people have come forward, "all saying the same thing: that there was an external force -- not from the center wing tank, there's no evidence of that -- but there is evidence of an external explosion that brought down that plane," Stalcup said.
He cited "corroborating information from the radar data" and complained that "not one single eyewitness was allowed to testify -- that's unheard of."
"The family members need to know what happened to their loved ones," he said.
Asked why such information might have been suppressed, Stalcup said, "That's a question that should be answered when this investigation gets reopened."
Stalcup is co-founder of the Flight 800 Independent Researchers Organization and has been a longtime and passionate critic of the official investigation.

Tom Stalcup has been reviewing the science and conclusions of National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) airline crash investigations since 1997. As a physicist specializing in superconductors and high magnetic fields, he completed his graduate work at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, FL in 2000. In 2004, Stalcup founded Upward Innovations Inc., a company that designs and sells Internet-enabled satellite transmitters for weather stations.
In 1999, he co-founded FIRO (Flight 800 Independent Researchers Organization), a group of scientists, former airline crash investigators, and aviation professionals researching the crash of TWA Flight 800. FIRO's research includes fully referenced articles on critical pieces of evidence. One such review (published in July 2004) documents how key evidence recovered by Navy salvage ships never made it to the NTSB, the agency mandated by law to determine the cause of the crash.
Stalcup has given numerous talks on the crash to various organizations and has appeared on national and international broadcasts, including the Discovery Channel, the History Channel, MS-NBC, BBC radio, C-span, and a variety of other news outlets. However the media, in large part, has accepted the NTSB's official crash scenario for Flight 800 with little, if any, scrutiny or fact checking.
Stalcup founded NTSB Watch in 2004 after noticing similarities between the NTSB's handling of the November 12, 2001 crash of American Airlines flight 587 and the crash of TWA Flight 800.
