Tom Poleman
President, National Programming Platforms iHeartMedia
Tom Poleman was named President of National Programming Platforms for iHeartMedia Media in August 2011 and oversees national on-air and live-event content. His responsibilities include on-air talent development, national contesting, artist relations, along with music and live event marketing - including the iHeartRadio Music Festival. His team includes a network of format brand managers, imaging directors, personalities and content specialists who leverage iHeartMedia's programming expertise, talent and brands on a national scale.
Poleman previously served as Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Media and oversaw programming and marketing for all iHeartMedia radio properties in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Providence. From his early days of establishing KC101/New Haven and KRBE/Houston as Top 40 forces, through his 15 year stint overseeing Z100/New York, one of the most successful pop stations in the history of the medium, Tom Poleman has played a central role in shaping the radio industry.
When Poleman became Program Director of Z100 in 1996, the station ranked #18 in New York. That year, he named Elvis Duran to mornings, shifted the station back to its Top 40 roots, and established Z100's Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden. Within a year, Z100 was the most listened to station in America. In 1999 he became the youngest corporate programming executive for AMFM Broadcasting. In 2000, he was named SVP Programming for all of iHeartMedia's New York's stations. And in 2008, his roster grew to 28, playing a key role in iHeartMedia's top markets. Early this year, he became an integral player in bridging the programming gap to iHeartMedia's digital initiatives including the development of the iHeartRadio Music Festival, and innovative partnerships with Facebook, Zynga and the music community.
In 2007, Poleman was named National Programming Executive of the Year at Radio & Records Magazine Industry Achievement Awards, and the following year he was inducted into the FMQB CHR Programmer Hall of Fame. In March 2005, he was ranked number one in Billboard Radio Monitor's Top 40 Programmers in Top 40 Radio issue. He was named Crain's New York Magazine's "40 Under 40" executives to watch in 2003. Poleman has been honored numerous times as Major Market Mainstream Top 40 Program Director of the Year at the Radio Music Awards and in Billboard,Radio and Records, FMQB, and Gavin magazines.
Poleman is also deeply committed to community service. In the past, he has served as Co-Chair for Musicians on Call and on the Board of Directors for MusiCares. He was honored in 2006 by the Explorer's Club, 2004 by LIFEbeat - The Music Industry Fights AIDS, 1999 by the T.J. Martell Foundation and, also in 1999, as the recipient of the Gloria Swanson Humanitarian Award by the American Cinema Awards Foundation.

Z100 quote: "Z100 is all about playing what's hot, and we can't think of anything hotter than a song from the woman at the center of a scandal that took down the governor of New York," says Tom Poleman, SVP of Programming for Z100 New York.
