Joles apologizes for KOB newsroom dustup
Before returning to his duties on Monday at KOB-TV, anchor Tom Joles emailed an apology to his Channel 4 colleagues for a fiery newsroom argument that earned him a week-long "cool down period" from station management.
In his apology, Joles said it was "humbling and humiliating to be sent home, and then have to watch from the sidelines for a week."
He acknowledged that what began "as a passionate discussion about good journalism disintegrated into an absurd and unnecessary shouting match," and he accepted full responsibility for his part in it.
"Last week I allowed my frustrations to get the best of me, which was stupid on my part," Joles wrote. "After reflecting on that incident, I now fear my singular search for exceptional journalism has hurt some of you. If that's true, you have my sincere apologies."
Joles further committed to waging "a more sensitive fight, never forgetting we all have feelings, and those feelings need to be understood and respected."
