Welcome From 2016 President Tom Hatcher

...
While serving as Circuit Court Clerk, Tom has actively participated in the East Tennessee Clerk's Association and the Tennessee State Court Clerk's Association. He has served as treasurer, secretary and president of the East Tennessee Clerk's Association. In 2000, he was the East Tennessee State Court Clerk of the Year. He was elected President of the Tennessee State Court Clerk's Association for 2000-2001. He was voted Outstanding State Court Clerk of the Year for 2001-2002. He has served as the legislative chair for the State Court Clerk's Association and serves on the board of directors for the County Officials Association of Tennessee. On 2014 he received the County Official of the Year award from the County Officials Association of Tennessee.
Additionally, he was appointed to a 3-year term on the Tennessee Judicial Council which reviews all legislation concerning the court system as well as some law enforcement legislation. He actively worked on the legislation to standardize court fees and simplify litigation tax forms that will go into effect on January 1, 2006.
Tom has attended hundreds of hours of special training classes through the University of Tennessee and has received his degree as a Certified Public Administrator. Tom has completed the Local Government Leadership Program.
In August of 2004, Tom received his Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Roane State Community College.
In addition to his many professional accomplishments, Tom has devoted much of his time to serving the young people of Blount County. He has worked with the Blount County Boy's Club, F.O.P. Youth Camp, his church youth group and has spent 16 years with Eagleton Little League.
For many years he worked with the Dogwood Arts and served as co-chair in 1999. He is a member of the Blount County TSSAA Football Officials Association and referees local football games. He has taught classes for the Sheriff's Citizen Academy on how the court system works.
He is currently active with the Public Service Organization of United Way. In this capacity he has initiated an annual cookout with all proceeds going to the United Way of Blount County. He is also serving a 3 year term on the board of directors for United Way.
In 2014 he formed a charity golf tournament to benefit Alzheimer's of Tennessee and the Boys and Girls Club of Blount County. In July this year, the second annual tournament was held and raised $20,000.00 for each organization. He also initiated a group from our office to participate in the Alzheimer's Walk in 2014 and just participated again this year. In addition to the golf tournament and the walk participation this year, Tom has been very active in getting "Purple Out Day" to be recognized across the state. The State Court Clerks Association adopted Alzheimer's Tennessee as their cause upon the proposal from Tom. On September 18, 2015 the first "Purple Out Day" was held where clerks and deputy clerks from one end of the state to the other wore purple to bring awareness and support to those suffering from the disease. $25,000.00 was raised in this one day. Tom strived to get the community involved in many ways, including a memory wall where pictures were displayed of family members who have suffered from the disease. Wal-Mart, Blount Chamber and other local businesses have also joined forces with the State Court Clerks in this event and everyone feels it will grow more next year. There is a tentative meeting scheduled in January for Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Alzheimer's Tennessee and others to plan a huge event for 2016. He encourages involvement from the office employees in many different community activities. Tom has also accepted a position on the Alzheimer's of Tennessee board of directors.
