One of the new hires, Todd Wilder, is a political consultant who was chief of staff to disgraced former Sheriff Ken Jenne.

Todd Wilder's name was once a familiar one at BSO, under Sheriff Jenne, a Democrat.
Under his contract, released to the Sun Sentinel by BSO, Wilder will make $5,000 a month. Five days a month, he'll have to come to Broward County, reimbursed with a $200 a day per diem. Wilder, who has been involved in Democratic politics since the early 1990s in then-Gov.
Wilder is chairman of one of the electioneering communication organizations that are allowed to take unlimited sums to influence local races but whose donors are difficult to track.
The contract carries a strict confidentiality clause, forbidding Wilder from revealing what he works on.
Wilder, hired under his company MG Strategies LLC, said he'll help with cost-cutting, prioritizing goals that need funding and helping prevent "the repeating of mistakes we may have made in previous administrations."

Todd Wilder, the Broward Sheriff Office's deputy chief of staff, said his first job will be to strengthen Smith's campaign team.

Wilder described his job as "getting the field operation organized.I'll be getting us up and running.I'll be advising him on the political operation."
Jenne has not endorsed anyone in the race yet, Wilder said.But by allowing Wilder to join the campaign and still keep his job sends a signal to the party insiders that one of Broward's most powerful Democrats is leaning in Smith's direction, Wilder said.
"He is giving me his endorsement to do this.Draw your own conclusions," Wilder said.
Wilder, 42, has worked for Jenne for a decade as the sheriff's chief lobbyist and political strategist earning roughly $120,000 annually.Before working for Jenne, he was Lt.Gov.
