Todd Soden is the original owner of the KANSAS CITY STOMP.Mr. Soden
is 34 years old, single.Although reliable sources have informed this reporter, that Mr. Soden
, has maintained a monogamous relationship with a certain young lady for some time now.Mr. Soden
resides in Lawrence, Kansas Mr. Soden is employed by a National Restaurant Chain, specifically, THE MAD GREEK.He
modesty admits to a position of, "Kitchen Manager", of the Lawrence affiliate!Evidently, Mr. Soden
, has done rather well in this position, considering the millions it required to purchase the Baseball Franchise he
I began the Interview by asking ... "May I call you Todd?"[Nodding in approval], Mr. Soden
replied, "yes ... of course."
, when did you first acquire a Baseball Franchise?"[Soden] ... "I bought out Mr. Tim Pennington's franchise, the LOUISVILLE SLUGGERS
, during the 1982 season of THE SHOW.Upon the conclusion of that year, I remained with THE SHOW until it's demise several years later."
How many Leagues have you been a participant in? [Soden] ... "Only two, THE SHOW and THE XIBL."
What were your Team names in THE SHOW? [Soden] ... "My team was originally called, THE TEXAS TWISTERS
, and I promptly changed it to, THE TEXAS WRANGLERS, after taking over."
How did you do, in THE SHOW? [Soden] ... "THE LOUISVILLE SLUGGERS
, won 101 games the year I guided them, and finished one game out of the division title race; that was won by THE SAN FRANCISCO SEALS, Ken's (Hauschild) team.My WRANGLERS hovered on the wrong side of .500 for two years."
I then brought the Interview around to questions pertaining to the XIBL
.What, if any, were the reasons behind the selection of your team name? [Soden] ... "The STOMP is based off a style of Jazz that was made popular in Kansas City during the 30's."
Your manager, Woodrow Bacon, what's the story behind him? [Soden] ... "Woodrow Bacon was the, Pit-chef, at Arthur Bryant's BBQ before coming out of retirement to Manage again."
[Soden] ... "Kansas City legend, Buck O'Neil, was rumored to be instrumental in this decision."
Your Stadium Model, WRIGLEY FIELD; Stadium name, ARTHUR BRYANT'S FIELD, what was behind these choices? [Soden] ... "The Stadium was built as an extension to the BBQ Pit!
[Soden] ... "I felt that this view gave BBQ and baseball lovers a unique look into both worlds, and so the name, ARTHUR BRYANT'S FIELD, was a no-brainer."
Are you familiar with any of the current owners in the XIBL? [Soden] ... "I am good friends with Tim (Pennington), Matt (Long), and Kenny (Hauschild), and yet I despise them all ... even though they all live in Lawrence (Kansas)."
[Soden] ... "Josh (Brewer) ... another good friend of mine, although he
lives in San Francisco."
[Soden] ... "His
team SUCKS so I don't hate him as much. All the other Owners, in the XIBL
, are familiar to me and I can't say I really like any of them."
Of the owners you've delt with, do any stand out in your mind? [Soden] ... "Matt is a big fan of certain Stats, that I ALSO use.Ken is like a, 'Jabba the Hut' of ratings, and Tim just wants to take your good players and leave a chewed-up piece of gum in their place. The A. L. West, where Kansas City currently resides, is full of owners that can evaluate talent. They all have their own ways of getting the work done and it seems like they all are right."
Since you had the opportunity to create your team from scratch, what criteria did you establish for yourself? [Soden] ... "I used the current popular stats in the ever-changing world of statistics.I, pretty much, ignored the ratings for my hitters and looked for pitchers that could eat innings without giving up too many runs.I didn't really draft a bullpen and I dearly paid for it."
In the formative draft, what were you looking for, in your first selection? [Soden] ... "Hummm, a 30 year old Right Fielder who could tear the cover off the ball!I was tetering between Davila and Sorenson, they are about the same except for age ...I took the younger."
Taking into consideration, all the selections you made in the initial draft, how would you evaluate your teams first year performance? [Soden] ... "It was a failure!I had no one in the bullpen, and the players I did have there, shouldn't have been.Harrington had a SLOW start, and, extended injuries to pitchers Fred Simpson and Joe Alexander really hurt my starting rotation."
What changes did you make?Evaluate your expected performance for this season. What player, of yours, are you expecting the most from? [Soden] ... " I would like to win my division, but I think my team is one to two years away.I am counting on Harrington, Sorenson, and Smith, so far they are delivering.Hundley, Perez, and Walker are all great hitters, but are spending some serious time of the D.L. and it hurts.Pitching wise, I feel good, except for the early season woes of Comacho and Ludwig.Revamping the bullpen was priority one, and it's working out so far."
, this concludes the Interview.I want to thank you, for your time and the very informative answers you gave.Would you like to add something, in the manner of a closing statement? [Soden] ... "The XIBL League
has turned out much better than I anticipated!
[Soden] ... "I really can't see stuff like, POWER RANKINGS, MINOR LEAGUE PROSPECTING, and, this article ever existing in the old league, (THE SHOW).
