Toby Emerson, education senior director, Oracle University, said the Oracle Learning Network (OLN), which launched in October, is a subscription service that lets users fill in the blanks on training and upgrades, instead of having to take an entire training session from scratch.
For instance, many Oracle
Certified Professionals (OCP) will sign up for OLN to upgrade their Database Administrator (DBA) certifications from Oracle
8i to the recently released Oracle 9i.
"They can get the training they need 24 hours a day, from wherever they are," Emerson
said."Just enough information, just in time. They're fully in control of that balance."
OLN courses are not just canned computer-based training, Emerson
added, but feature interactive training with live instructors.Courses are then archived and can be accessed again for additional study.OLN also offers chat rooms and forums for additional learning resources. Oracle
also offers the e-Learning FastTrack program for OCPs.Launched in June, FastTrack can take a candidate from beginner to certification in 12 weeks. With an integrated training approach, FastTrack includes 10 instructor-led course days, self-paced study and trainer mentoring.
"I think the key advantage is it uses multiple training methods," Emerson
said."People learn in different ways and this stimulates that.It builds on itself and reinforces throughout the 12 weeks."
