Timothy Williams, a resident of Costa Rica , has led a truly amazing - and unusual - career in a short amount of time. "It's funny to think that just six years ago I never would have imagined doing what I'm doing or living the life that I'm living today," Tim says. Originally from the Midwest United States , Mr. Williams started his first company at the age of 21 - a telecommunications company which worked with wireless service providers such as Sprint to upgrade their nationwide network to provide second-generation (PCS) services. In 2003, Mr. Williams was approached by a Costa Rica-based company involved in the newly burgeoning online gambling industry to head that firm's marketing efforts. Little did he know the adventure in which he was about to embark. With bags packed and a one-way ticket to Costa Rica in hand, Mr. Williams decided he was up for the challenge. It's no surprise other competitors began to take notice, and in 2005 Mr. Williams was approached by Sportingbet PLC, a multi-billion dollar company publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange, where Mr. Williams was offered a position as Brand Manager for the company's third-largest US-facing brand. Williams quickly set about repositioning the brand with sex appeal intended to resonate with the site's core demographic of young males. Through a number of high-profile events and sponsorships, on-message communication, and a more analytical approach to online marketing, Mr. Williams managed to breath fresh life into the brand and nearly double the site's traffic and conversion rates in just nine short months. In 2006, the U.S. Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIEGA) which essentially made online gambling illegal in the United States . It was at this time that Mr. Williams decided to leave the online gambling industry in hopes of putting to use the high-stakes, high-adrenaline experience of the last several years of his career in another industry. "I decided - after this wild ride, working for just one company - in one industry - would bore me," Tim says. "I decided I wanted to work in an agency environment and have the opportunity to work on a wide range of campaigns for clients in many different industries," Tim continues. "The problem was, after several years of living in paradise, I really didn't want to leave Costa Rica ." It didn't take long for a solution to present itself. Just two months later, Mr. Williams was offered a position as a Managing Director at Los Angeles - based Pop Culture Public Relations. The dealmaker? That Mr. Williams would be able to work remotely from his home in Costa Rica and only travel to the Los Angeles office if and when necessary. "I couldn't bring myself to leave my adopted home of Costa Rica . I've come to feel truly at home here. Pop Culture PR was a Godsend," says Williams. At Pop Culture PR, an agency which has specialized in consumer and lifestyle public relations for the past 11 years and which has won numerous industry accolades including "One of the Top 10 Most Successful Marketing Stunts Ever" by Entrepreneur Magazine, and PRWeek's "Campaign of the Month", Mr. Williams served as one of two Managing Directors in addition to agency Principal, Darren Paul. Tim successfully placed clients in numerous top-tier, national media outlets including The Today Show, Ellen , USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Good Morning America, and many more. Since launching DIME PR, Mr. Williams has received a wealth of praise and positive marks from the agency's first clients and looks forward to working with new clients with a great story to tell.
