Sielaff leads cancer | Allina Hospitals & Clinics
MINNEAPOLIS 01/30/2009-- Oncologist Timothy Sielaff, MD, PhD, FACS, has accepted a new position as president of cancer services at Allina Hospitals & Clinics.
The new system-wide program will adopt Abbott Northwestern Hospital's cancer brand name and will be called the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute.

"Dr. Sielaff is a highly respected physician committed to providing exceptional care outcomes and experiences for every patient," said Penny Wheeler, MD, Allina's chief clinical officer.
Sielaff has been the medical director of Abbott Northwestern's Virginia Piper Cancer Institute for the past four years.
The Virginia Piper Cancer Institute
will expand to Allina's other metro hospitals, including Mercy in Coon Rapids, United in St. Paul and Unity in Fridley.
"We have exceptional clinical resources already existing at various parts throughout Allina, and we will work to make them available to all of our patients and providers," said Sielaff.

Sielaff, MD, PhD, FACS, has been named medical director of Abbott Northwestern Hospital,s Virginia Piper Cancer Institute.He will join the Institute in mid-July.Sielaff is currently an associate professor of Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School and a member of the University of Minnesota Cancer Center.He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison and the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Minnesota, where he also completed a PhD in surgery in 1997.
In 1998, he
completed a fellowship in hepato-pancreatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation at the University of Toronto
.Sielaff has been a staff surgeon at Fairview-University Medical Center since 1998.Sielaff specializes in surgery of the liver, pancreas and bile ducts.He is a nationally recognized expert in minimally invasive liver and pancreas surgery and is a strong advocate for multidisciplinary disease specific cancer care teams.His
