realizes career milestone
...Tim Teachey spent his early post-college years traveling eastern Virginia as a salesman for Roche Biomedical, but ultimately decided it was not the career path for him.
"After four years, I went back to school to get certified as a teacher,'' he
said of a 1988 decision to earn teacher certification at Virginia Commonwealth University
in Richmond. After 20 years as a teacher, coach and administrator, Teachey, 46, realized a career milestone Tuesday night when he was appointed the new principal of Waynesboro High School.He
starts the new job July 1. Teachey is confident in the staff he will inherit from current Principal Sue Wright, who is becoming the school district's elementary coordinator of instruction and who also works on k-12 literacy.
I just need to give some direction,'' Teachey
said. Instructional team leaders at the high school determine what is best for the departments and schoolwide, Teachey
said. "I intend to keep everyone pointed in the right direction," he
said. Teachey has been comfortable in his role as assistant principal at Waynesboro High the past three years.He
might have been content to stay in that job, but said he
has received encouragement from colleagues about the principal's position.One of those colleagues is Wright, who has worked side-by-side with Teachey as principal.
