Tim is appealing for news, photographs, video of unusual cranes from northern Australia. 'Sarolgas' have been reported with different combinations of features, including less red on the head than Sarus, but more than Brolgas; greyish rather than pink legs, but usually with pinkish 'knees' and toes. During September 2014 Tim and team caught, recorded data and released two Sarus Cranes and a Brolga in the first field exercise for his PhD study into Brolga-Sarus interactions in Australia. Multiple measurements were taken as well as blood samples for DNA analysis of species relationships. As well as colour bands, mini-transmitters were attached for satellite tracking. Sarus released with bands (Tim Nevard) Look out for Sarus and Brolga with the following ID bands (rings) - Tim hopes local primary school kids will give them names! Tim Nevard, is a doctoral researcher at Charles Darwin University, leading a study into the evolutionary ecology and behaviour of Sarus cranes and Brolgas in tropical Australia, Tim is the recently-retired founding chairman of the Norfolk Rivers Trust; and the co-Founder of the Wildlife Conservancy of Tropical Queensland.

Mr Tim NevardMr Tim Nevard, President, Wildlife Conservancy of Tropical Queensland.Tim Nevard has been applying his skills to sustainable business development and conservation for over 20 years.Having founded Europe's largest independent environmental consultancy, the RPS Group Plc and established urban development studies at James Cook University, Tim is now a principal environmental scientist with consulting firm GHD (www.ghd.com.au) and Senior Research Fellow at Charles Darwin University; as well as holding directorships of a number of other commercial companies and charitable trusts.He conceived the Mareeba Tropical Savanna and Wetland Reserve in 1995 (www.mareebawetlands.com), recently becoming the President of a new regional conservation NGO coalition, the Wildlife Conservancy of Tropical Queensland (www.wildlifequeensland.com.au).He was awarded the Order of Australia and Prime Minister's Centenary Medals for his services to nature conservation.
