The biggest change in her life ...

www.billingsnews.com [cached]

The biggest change in her life may have been coming to Rocky Mountain College to a position created by former President Thomas Oates.

Not only were her father and uncle alumni there, she says, but it was the first place where "white folks" had invited her to speak.
"It was a dream come true, really," she says.
At Rocky, her duties are manifold. She teaches a couple of courses in teacher education. She directs the National Science Foundation's Steps to Success grant program, which helps train environmental scientists at tribal colleges. She is the director of Native American studies. She is the strategic planning officer for the college.
It's a full plate, and she still has writing and research she wants to do.
"There's no end to the work that needs to be done," she says.
It all fits in with the goals that have pushed her entire life: using education as a key to unlock freedom.
"People can be such victims," she says.
