Thomas Newsom, president of Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, said he does not yet know what the impacts to his school will be as of July 1 (the beginning of the 2017-18 fiscal year), but said New Mexico Independent Community Colleges will release a statement together sometime in the next week regarding higher education funding.

The Mesalands Community College students stand before the crowd as President Thomas Newsom presents them as the 2017 graduates.
This year, Mesalands is honored to have four dual enrollment students from Tucumcari High School graduate with a certificate or associates degree two weeks before they graduate from high school, said Thomas Newsom, president of Mesalands. He said Mesalands is proud to have had a part in these students' educations and to have helped them build a foundation in their secondary education and success. He said the students worked hard to get a jump start on their next level of education on a long road to their success.
