A native of Johnson City, TN, Tom is a graduate of the University of Tennessee majoring in Marketing and Advertising and earned his degree while working fulltime as an on-air personality at two Knoxville radio stations.
Following military service and a career in commercial radio, he joined the Hamilton National Bank in his hometown in 1963 as vice president for business development and commercial lending.
Named president and CEO of the bank in 1969, Tom was appointed Tennessee's Commissioner of Banking in 1979 and served in that capacity during the Alexander first term.
After a period of bank consulting which included CEO positions at two banks, his
activities in the industry included work with credit unions located in five states including on site supervision of a troubled institution in Dodge City, Kansas.
From 1987 until 1993 he served as president and CEO of Mutual Guaranty Corporation located in Chattanooga, a consulting client.
eclectic career with the last 15 years spent as CEO and director of First Century Bank
and as president and director of Claiborne Holding Company
in Tazewell, Tennessee.
Always active in community affairs and his
wife Marie live in Knoxville and try to keep track of their sixteen children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
