Thomas Joiner, Music Director and Conductor of the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, has appeared as a In the spring of 2001, Joiner spent a sabbatical in France studying with the eminent maestro John Nelson, Music Director of the L'Ensemble Orchestral deParis. Joiner has performed in Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center as a principal player with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and has been a violinist with orchestras in Joiner served as Director of Orchestral Activities and Professor of Violin at the University of Georgia School of Music in Violin for eleven years, returning to his alma mater, Furman University, in 1994. He earned the Doctor of Music Performance from Florida State University, the Masters of Church Music in Musicology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Furman University. Joiner is a native of Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Under the leadership of Music Director and Conductor Thomas Joiner the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra's creative programming has led to continued growth for the orchestra, community support and sold-out performances. He has invited notable musicians to perform with the HSO including pianists Lee Luvisi, Yakov Kasman, and Jorge Federico Osorio, cellists Andres Diaz and Carter Brey, violinists James Buswell, Stephanie Chase, Laura St. John, and William Preucil, tenors Gary Lakes and Stanford Olsen, soprano Angela Brown, trumpeter Christopher Martin and popular artists jazz trumpeter Byron Stripling, Rhythm and Brass, the Kruger Brothers, Celtic fiddler Jamie Laval, and the Andy Carlson Band. Joiner has created collaborative concerts with the Flat Rock Playhouse, Pat's School of Dance, The Carl Sandburg Home, Asheville Lyric Opera, North Carolina Stage Company, the Carolina Concert Choir, the HSO Childrens Chorus, and the Greenville (SC) Chorale. In addition to masterworks concerts the HSO performs curriculum-based youth concerts to all 3rd and 6th grade Henderson county children each year. Joiner has appeared as a conductor, violin soloist, chamber player, and teacher throughout the United States and eleven foreign countries. As Professor of Violin and Orchestral Activities at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, he conducts the Furman Symphony Orchestra in orchestra, operatic, and oratorio performances each year. Joiner held the Dr. & Mrs. William J. Pendergrast, Sr. Artist Chair at Brevard Music Center and served on the conducting staff and as a concertmaster of the Brevard Music Festival Orchestra.
