Thomas Houlihan is a partner in Amer Cunningham Co., the law firm arguing Munroe Falls' case before the Ohio Supreme Court.
Asked whether the Pennsylvania decision upholding local zoning over oil and gas drilling will have any effect on the Ohio case, he
hasn't yet read the full Pennsylvania case.
"We hope the Ohio Supreme Court views the matter in a similar manner," he
disputed predictions by the oil and gas industry that local zoning will create huge problems for drilling operators.
noted that before H.B. 278 passed in 2004, oil and gas drilling had a long history in Ohio.
also pointed out that a typical fracking operation (vertical wells, with very long horizontal offshoots deep underground) can access oil or gas from as far away as a mile from where the pad is located.
