, Thomas Fitzpatrick of Randall Goodrich & FitzpatrickThomas Fitzpatrick, Prosecutor with Randall Goodrich & Fitzpatrick, introduced himself and reported that the transfer of prosecution files has gone well and they have been integrated into his existing prosecution calendar. He
thanked Mr. Griffith for helping in that transition as well as Neil Davis who provided a summary of cases so dispositions could be consistent and handled smoothly.Mr. Fitzpatrick stated he has a good working relationship with investigators and sheriff's deputies because of his work with East Bethel so the transitioning of police reports also went well and all is in place. Mr. Fitzpatrick stated he looks forward to working with Oak Grove and indicated that his office is always accessible to Oak Grove staff. He
added that he
has already begun his
work with staff on ordinance violation cases.
explained that is a situation involving a minor criminal offense of using what may have been some illegal fireworks but has become a major dispute between neighbors. He
is trying to resolve that by treating it as a petty misdemeanor offense with disposition to put some leverage on the defendant to not do it again.Mr. Fitzpatrick
explained that the judge will not give a huge disposition but he
would like to leave the party charged with some consequence should there be a violation in the future. He
views it more as a neighborhood dispute than a criminal charge.
explained that if he
can certify the matter as a petty misdemeanor, it will result in a fine, not jail disposition. Then it limits them to a court trial, not a jury trial, which greatly reduces the cost.Mayor Olson thanked Mr. Fitzpatrick for attending the meeting tonight.
