THOMAS D. FARRELL Thomas D. Farrell is senior counsel at Coates & Frey.In May 2002 he became the first, and to date, only lawyer to be certified as a specialist in family law by the Supreme Court of Hawaii . He is also certified as a family law trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.A graduate of Punahou School, the University of Hawaii, and the University of Santa Clara School of Law, he was admitted to the Hawaii Bar in 1980 and served as a Deputy Attorney General, representing the Child Support Enforcement Agency, Adult Protective Services, the Office of Public Guardian and Child Protective Services.Mr. Farrell
entered private practice in 1995, concentrating in divorce, domestic violence, and other family law matters.He served as chair of the Lawyer Information & Referral Service from 1990-91 and was Chair of the Government Attorneys Section in 1993.He
was recognized for pro bono services to the elderly by the Health & Community Services Council in 1988 and received an HSBA Outstanding Volunteer Award in June 2000.Mr. Farrell currently serves the Judiciary as an Arbitrator for the Court-Annexed Arbitration Program.A retired Colonel in the Army Reserve, he holds a Master's Degree from the US Army War College, and has over 29 years military experience in intelligence, staff and command assignments at all levels.
A veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his
military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit.
