Tom earned his degree in accounting from the University of Washington in 1977.
He worked for five years in public accounting with a national firm that specialized in the hospitality industry.
was hired away in the mid 1980's by a client that provided catering services to remote sites throughout the world, but was also heavily invested in retail and wholesale businesses in Anchorage, Alaska.
As its controller, he helped to successfully reorganize the company and bring in new investors.
left that company in the late 1980's and started consulting on a national basis in the convenience store industry and during that time participated in the turnaround of the Plaid Pantry convenience stores based in Portland, Oregon.

Tom volunteers with many business organizations in the Seattle area.
He is currently President of the Northshore Rotary Club and is a board member with the Northshore YMCA and the Cascadia Community College Foundation.
He is also active member and past President of the Seattle Executives Association and heads the finance committee of the Northwest Entrepreneur Association.
