"In October of last year we were hit with a major storm that caused widespread roof damage," recalled Fr. Tom Barrett, Pastor of St. Brendan in Ormond Beach.
"There was so much damage that we had to close the parish hall because things were falling from the ceiling."
Through the Alive in Christ Campaign, parishioners raised over $717,000 to address crucial needs, including extensive roof repairs.
"As a result of Alive in Christ, we were able to start the repairs right away without having to ask for additional offertory funds," noted Fr. Barrett
By the end of January, work was complete on the church, the school gymnasium, and the rectory.
Having lain vacant for several years, the rectory required additional repairs, including the removal of contaminated insulation and air conditioning ducts.
For Fr. Barrett
, living in the rectory prior to the renovations was quite a challenge.
"On my second night, I could hear all of God's creatures crawling in the attic.
I am happy to now be living in a non-toxic and critter-free environment," he
Once all roof repairs are complete, the parish will explore the possibility of replacing air conditioning units and restriping the parking lot.
"None of this work could be done without the parishioners and their generous commitment to St. Brendan
's and our diocese," noted Fr. Barrett
