Claremont police have arrested a clinical psychologist on suspicion of molesting two boys during counseling sessions. Thomas Gary Amberson, 56, of Upland is scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles County Superior Court in Pomona on Dec. 19, according to sheriff's booking records. Police began investigating Amberson last month after a 9-year-old boy reported the man committed lewd acts with him during a session. Amberson, who counsels children and adults at his private practice in Claremont, was also accused of committing sex acts with a 13-year-old boy between September and October 2007, according to a criminal complaint. Amberson was working at his Yale Avenue office on Thursday, but declined to discuss either case. "I've been advised not to," he said. Amberson said the number of patients he counsels ranges from 20 to 25. He provides counseling for a variety of issues including work stress, marriage, parenting and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. He said the number of children he counsels ranges from one to five. Parents who suspect their children may have been victims of Amberson may call police at 909-399-5420.
