Mr. Saenger is the retired president and CEO of Pacific Bell.
36 years in corporate leadership, Mr. Saenger
gained significant governance experience serving on and leading many corporate governing boards.
Since his retirement from Pacific Bell, Mr. Saenger has been active in civic activities, serving on boards of a number of organizations including the San Francisco Symphony, United Way of the Greater Bay Area, California Economic Development Corporation, Los Angeles Philharmonic and the YMCA.
A resident of Alamo, he currently serves as a member of the Board of the San Francisco Foundation and the University of California Berkeley Foundation, and is the past chairman of the Board of John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Theodore J. Saenger, former president and Chief Executive Officer of Pacific Bell, was appointed to the Commission as a public member in 1997 for a three-year term, and was reelected in 2000 for a second three-year term.Saenger is trustee and past chairman of the UC Berkeley Foundation, board member and past chair of the San Francisco Foundation, and trustee of the Sutter Health System.A former trustee of the California State University system, Saenger has served as a director for a variety of educational and philanthropic organizations, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the California Chamber of Commerce, the San Francisco Symphony, Occidental College, and the Greater Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.A graduate of UC Berkeley, Saenger has spent his career in various management positions for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, Pacific Telesis, and AT&T.He is the Chair of the Commission's Finance and Operations Committee.
