Kawana is a master instructor in the Sogetsu School of ikebana and one of the most creative and highly regarded practitioners of Sogetsu ikebana in the world.

As a master teacher of the Sogetsu School, Tetsunori Kawana has presented ikebana at seminars, demonstrations and major conventions throughout the world for mor OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA e than 30 years. He is a sought-after instructor who has taught in Japan, the U.S., Canada, England, Ireland, France, Holland, Switzerland, Portugal, Russia, Chile, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore.
Kawana regularly creates large 16 (2) sculptural ikebana for the prestigious Hotel New Otani in Tokyo, and showcase pieces for the main annual Sogetsu School exhibition in Tokyo.

Kawana studied ikebana under Hiroshi Teshigahara, son of the founder of Sogetsu and the grand master of the school from 1980 until 2001.
The new millennium has seen Kawana continue to explore and expand the art of ikebana, and apply those same sensibilities as a bamboo installation artist.
Moscow As part of his Passage Project, Kawana has constructed large outdoor bamboo installations in Japan, Australia, Russia and here in the U.S. cities of New York, Charlotte and Denver.

Also on display at the Botanical Gardens were sculptures by Tetsunori Kawana. A master teacher of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in Tokyo, Kawana incorporates personal style and artistic vision into his designs. He is known for his modern, large-scale installations that take traditional principles while making use of new materials in techniques. To create the sculpture below, Kawana salvaged fallen branches, twigs, vines, stumps and roots from the grounds of the Botanical Garden in the days following tropical storms Irene and Lee. Through gathering and reassembling these items, Kawana seeks to give them a second life as a site-specific work of art that engages all senses.
