The Mint Museum - Tetsunori Kawana Mint Museum of Art Tetsunori Kawana Collections > Project Ten Ten Ten > Tetsunori Kawana Tetsunori Kawana K&Q Tetsunori Kawana Tetsunori Kawana main From 26 July through 12 August from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, the public is invited to watch internationally renowned bamboo artist and Ikebana master, Tetsunori Kawana, create Passages: Waterway on the lawn of Mint Museum Randolph for the Mint Museum of Craft + Design's Project Ten Ten Ten. Trained by Hiroshi Teshigahara, former director of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in Tokyo, Tetsunori Kawana has taught his craft around the world for over thirty years. The Sogetsu School, founded in 1927, expanded the definition of Ikebana by encouraging personal style in individual creations while maintaining traditional principles, a philosophy that Kawana has carried through to his bamboo installations. He has completed site-specific bamboo commissions in Japan, Russia, the United States, and Australia. For Project Ten Ten Ten, Kawana and community volunteers will create Passages: Waterway, a 20 x 20 x 82 foot passageway. Accommodations for Tetsunori Kawana have been generously provided by Sterling Magnolia Apartments. The Mint Museum is funded, in part, with operating support from the Arts & Science Council of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Inc.; the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources; the City of Charlotte; and its members.
