Then there are those like Mayor Ergle and longtime Ocala Airport Advisory Board member Terry Crawford, who have been fighting for years to re-establish a commercial carrier in Marion County.Crawford
says the facilities here are good enough for an airline - it's just a matter of convincing the company's leaders that Ocala
has a sufficient market base to provide profitable revenue.
"In some of the more successful cities, if the market is there, they will run out of a doublewide (mobile home)," said Crawford
, who said he
has had many discussions with airlines like Delta and U.S. Air in recent years.
"At one time, Eastern was back down here measuring for carpet, but then they merged with Continental and that ended that.
"It's not a facility problem," he
concluded."It's a market situation.
