Terry Austin Candidate for the 19th House of Delegates
Terry Austin Candidate for the 19th House of Delegates | Botetourt County GOP Terry Austin Candidate for the 19th House of Delegates Terry Austin is a lifelong resident of Botetourt County. Terry's parents instilled in him and his siblings the importance of hard work, traditional values, strong ethics and giving back to the community. After graduating from Botetourt County public schools and attending Virginia Western Community College, Terry embarked on a career as an electrician. Soon he started his own part-time electrical business, which quickly grew into a successful full-time electrical contracting company focusing on new residential construction and residential repair work. The focus of Terry's business began to shift when he was given the opportunity to work on an airfield lighting project. His successful completion of that project allowed him to make additional contacts in the world of airport design. Today, Terry's company, Austin Electrical Construction specializes in airfield design and construction projects such as specialized runway lighting, airport radar systems and installation of navigational aids to help planes from small private planes to jumbo jets land safely. His company has completed major airfield projects at Reagan National Airport, Guantanamo Bay and Westover Air Force Base as well as projects at local airports. While Terry's company grew, he never forgot how important it was to remain involved in the community. After serving a four year term on the county's Planning Commission, Terry won a seat on the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors in 1997 and was then re-elected three more times. During his time on the Board, Terry served as Chairman for three consecutive years. He also served on the County's Budget Committee for 15 years, during which the County's bond rating improved to "AA" making Botetourt the only county of its size to achieve that rating. The community recognized Terry's efforts on the Board when readers of the Botetourt View voted him "Best Local Politician" in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. Terry continues to serve on the Board of Supervisors today. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Buchanan and serves on the Advisory Board of the Bank of Botetourt. Terry and his wife, Kathy, live in the Buchanan section of Botetourt and attend Valley View Baptist Church. Terry has three grown children, a stepson, and five grandchildren.
