Ms. Velasquez currently oversees the City's Human Resources Department, Information Technology Department, the Revenue and Collections Division, Procurement Services Division, and Financial Services Division.

She has served in many positions with the City of Colorado Springs that includes Internal Auditor, Accounting Supervisor, Accounting Manager, and Finance Director.
Ms. Velasquez holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of Colorado and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Colorado.
She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Public Finance Officer.
She is an active member in several national and regional finance organizations, and currently serves as a Board Director for the VantageTrust Company of ICMA-RC (International City/County Management Association, Retirement Corporation).
She also serves as a board member on the CTU (Colorado Technical University) Accounting & Finance Advisory Board and the GFOA (Government Finance Officer Association) committee on retirement and benefits administration.
