FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Terin Gaffney's
favorite NFL quarterback is Tom Brady.
"It's going to be great," Gaffney
will stay behind to study his
new offensive system and try to cram enough to play the next game Oct. 22 at Buffalo.
"It's a little bit similar to what I was doing at Houston," Gaffney
said."When we go to Buffalo, I expect to be out there."
In four seasons with the Texans, he
started 50 games and caught 171 passes.But he wanted to get into a more pass-oriented offense so became a free agent and signed with the Eagles last March 16.
That's where he
had to learn a new system, a West Coast-style offense that stressed passing.He
found himself slipping down the depth chart as training camp progressed, and the Eagles cut him Sept. 2, five days before the season began.
"I kind of felt it coming a little bit," Gaffney
did conditioning work on his
own, but didn't get any calls from NFL teams until the Patriots
invited him to work out.
"I was real excited, real excited," Gaffney
Troy Brown is the only holdover in a group that includes Doug Gabriel, Reche Caldwell
, Chad Jackson and now Gaffney
The last three all played for Florida, and Caldwell and Gaffney
were teammates there.
four seasons with the Texans, they won a total of just 18 games.The Patriots
won 17 in 2003 alone and another 17 in 2004.They won the Super Bowl both times.
Houston was 2-14 last season, their worst record while Gaffney
was there.So he
decided to leave.
