TeixeiraStanley E. TeixeiraStanley E. Teixeira, President of the firm of H.J. Brunnier Associates, San Francisco, suffered a sudden and fatal heart attack on July 20, 1997, at the age of 78.He was raised in San Bruno, California, and attended San Mateo Junior College and the University of California at Berkeley, from which he graduated in December of 1940 with honors.He was a member of Chi Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi honor societies.As a young student he was a fine baseball player and also played the banjo in a band to help meet college expenses.Immediately following graduation, he spent a year and a half in the Panama Canal Zone as one of H.J. Brunnier's "Panama Crew."During World War II he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps (known as the Seabees), seeing duty in the Pacific Theater.At the conclusion of the war, he returned to San Francisco, rejoined H.J. Brunnier Associates, and married his longtime sweetheart, Lois Jeffries.During the course of his 56-year career, Stan was responsible for many major successful engineering projects, including the development of the huge United Airlines Maintenance Operations Center at the San Francisco Airport, and many important buildings in San Francisco, including the 52-story Bank of America; a number of buildings for Chevron and Standard Oil, ranging in height from 22 to 40 stories; a 34-story PG&E building, and a variety of buildings for the California State Automobile Association (7 to 28 stories).His work included St. Luke's Medical Center, St. Mary's Medical Center, Crown Zellerbach, the Matson Garage, the Golden Gateway, the California Memorial Masonic Temple, all in San Francisco, and many other buildings throughout the United States.Among his many design projects was a series of glass bottle-manufacturing plants constructed around the world.He also worked on remodel, alteration, and addition projects, including the San Francisco Civic Auditorium, De Young Museum, Central Tower, Clift Hotel, Fairmont Hotel, and others.Stan first became a member of EERI in 1967.He was President of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California in 1976, and later served as a Director of SEAOC.He was also a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
