Mr. Takashi Kubota, President and CEO Mr. Takashi Kubota After joining Chiyoda in 1969, Mr. Kubota worked in process engineering for oil, chemicals and gas processing. He then moved on to gas-related projects and, as General Manager of the Jakarta Office, led the Indonesia LNG Project. Mr. Kubota served as General Manager of the Australasia Project and became a board member in 1998. In 2001, he became Managing Director of International Project Operation whilst, at the same time, serving as Senior General Manager of the International Business Development Division. Mr. Kubota was Deputy General Manager of Domestic Project Operations in 2004, and became Managing Director of Technology & Engineering in 2005. Living in Southeast Asia for eight years led him to recognise the importance of making decisions that take into account the perspectives of other people, and he has attempted to eliminate the negative effects of trying to impose personal opinions. He has established the trust of clients because of his broadly balanced outlook that spans international and domestic operations as well as technology and projects. Mr. Kubota became President and Chief Executive Officer on April 1, 2007. His goals include moving forward with the medium-term management plan "Engineering Excellence, Value Creation" and strengthening the operating base with the concerted efforts of all Chiyoda Group employees to become number one in profitability in the industry.

Takashi Kubota President & CEO Chiyoda Corporation Kubota:The origin of Legacy for the 21st Century,1 which puts forth the thoughts of Chiyoda's founder Akiyoshi Tamaki in the 1970s, was The Limits to Growth, a report issued by the think tank The Club of Rome. Kubota: There has been no suitable Japanese term for plant engineering so far.2 That may be what makes it hard to visualize. Kubota: That and a high level of reliability. Kubota: In Japan, the plan to introduce LNG was formulated in the mid-1960s. Kubota: Three things are important. Kubota: Absolutely. Kubota: People who aspire to contribute to society and who challenge themselves to change. Kubota: We value students with well-balanced character, but what is really important is practical learning after they join the company. Kubota: We have been promoting internationalization throughout the Chiyoda Group since the 1970s. Kubota: We have a relatively low employee turnover rate. Kubota: Women are also active at plant construction sites. Kubota: I realize that promoting women will be an issue going forward. Kubota: That is one of the most challenging parts of building a plant, whether in Japan or overseas. Kubota: In June this year, we relocated our headquarters from Tsurumi-ku to the Minatomirai area of Yokohama.
