Belleville - Sylvia Curry has been president of the Quinte Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) since 1995.
This year she
won the prestigious Victim Support Volunteer of the Year Award."I cannot remember a more dedicated volunteer than Sylvia," said Belleville Police inspector Merle Foster who has been with the police service for 34 years.
makes herself available to the victims of drunk drivers by attending court and being there throughout the entire process if it is desired.She
also meets with and accepts phone calls any time of day from the people suffering as a result of those tragedies.Sylvia
also helps the families prepare victim impact statements for court.
..."I first met Sylvia in 1997 when I became a member of the board for MADD Quinte Chapter," Jianopoulos says.
Jianopoulos added that Curry
was the one who initiated the board sending a card to the victim's family on the anniversary of their loved one's death.
