Charlotte Latin School's assistant athletic director and head varsity volleyball coach Suzie Pignetti will retire in June of 2013, Headmaster Arch N. McIntosh Jr. announced today.
Pignetti has been head volleyball coach at Latin since 2001, laying the foundation in that first year for the era of dominance of Charlotte Latin volleyball in both the CISAA and the 3A NCISAA conferences.
at the helm for the past 12 years, the Latin volleyball team won 11 consecutive conference championships and nine consecutive state titles.
35-year coaching career at Latin, Butler High School and Charlotte Country Day
compiled a win-loss record of 745-150, which is the North Carolina coaching record for the most wins.
Coach Pignetti led her teams to 29 conference championships and 15 state championships.
coached 18 high school players and 35 club players who have gone on to play at the collegiate level.
was named the AVCA 2012 National High School
Coach of the Year and coached Latin's
All-American Eve Davis and the All-America East
Team in the 2012 Under Armor All-America High School match.
Pignetti has been named the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Region Coach of the Year eight times, won the 2006 USA Volleyball Meritorious Service Award for outstanding service to volleyball in N.C., was a 1998 Ben Craig Outstanding Educator finalist, won the 1993 Outstanding NC Educator Award and was a founding coach of the Carolina Juniors Volleyball Club, serving as its director since 2004.
With all of those credits to her
name it is obvious that Coach Pignetti
is an expert in teaching and coaching volleyball; however, she
was never complacent in her
Coach Pignetti is an innovative coach who continually researches for better ways and the best tools to teach and coach her sport.
In 2002, she
brought a new system of teaching, playing and coaching volleyball to Charlotte Latin
, which was and is still being employed by the U.S. National Teams
credits this system with the consistent level of excellence with which the Latin teams have played.
