After the meeting, Susan Burack, a member of the Houghton County Planning Commission, said she found the meeting somewhat frustrating.
"I expected to hear lots of creative ideas. It seems there are obstacles for every possibility," she said, adding that she hoped to see more workable solutions at the next HEET meeting, which will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Finnish American Heritage Center in Hancock.

Susan Burack, Upper Peninsula Arts Coordinator and manager of the MACAA auxiliary office in Hancock, received her BA from Bennington College and MA from Ball State University.Familiar with arts resources in both peninsulas as well as resource development, board structures and grants, Susan has collaborative planning experience in bringing together artists, community members and agencies and currently serves as the Western U.P. regranting coordinator for the MCACA Regional Regranters Program based at the Copper Country Arts Council in Hancock.A skilled writer, Susan has assisted with the development of numerous community arts projects; her expertise in dance/movement includes performing and teaching individuals of all ages.She has wide experience with the arts in education, especially with mentally and physically disabled populations.Susan is also a city commissioner with the City of Hancock.

Susan Burack, UP/Rural Arts Coordinator Susan Burack, UP/Rural Arts Coordinator for the Michigan Association of Community Arts Agencies was pleased with the news of funding increases.
"At a time when state budgets are being cut, it is gratifying that regranting funds have been increased," Burack said. "This is an indication of sensitivity on the part of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs to the needs of grass roots arts and culture."
Burack noted about 50 percent of the regranting funds for the six counties of the western UP are awarded to Houghton/Keweenaw.
