Susan Burack reported that the AIR program has been so valuable to the Copper County Learning Center that the ISD has found funding internally to hire teaching artists for the past couple of years. Susan Burack mentioned the Copper Country VSA art classthat has been going for over 25 years.

Glinn said another sister, Susan, currently is on military duty in Asia.- Susan Burack "None of the programs have the same funding they had last year," said Susan Burack, arts regranting coordinator for the Copper Country Community Arts Council."They're going to have difficulties and they're going to have to do some painful trimming."Burack said state arts grants to Keweenaw and Houghton County programs dropped from $230,000 to $90,000 this year, while mini-grants distributed to individual projects statewide were halved.Burack, whose own position as Upper Peninsula arts coordinator was eliminated with the grant cuts, said the state's reductions in arts funding reflect a flaw in its priorities."No other portion of the state budget has a cut like that," she said.
