Chairman of Ika South Local Government Area, Mr Sunny Ogwu, has allegedly refused to inaugurate two councillors of the opposition United Nigeria Peoples Party in his local government four weeks after their election.
The two councillors, Mr Andrew Agweze, Ward three, and Mr Martin Okonta, Ward 11, had defeated the Peoples Democratic Party candidates allegedly sponsored by Ogwu
who was elected on the platform of the PDP.
The councillors claimed that despite their DSIEC certificates, Ogwu
did not inaugurate them at a ceremony that took place in his
office during which other candidates were inaugurated.
was not aware the two UNPP councillors had been issued certificates of return by the state electoral commission. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the UNPP in Ika South, Mr Sunday Onyibe, has appealed to the state Governor, Chief James Ibori, to direct Ogwu to swear-in the two elected councillors without further delay, as their wards now had no representation in the scheme of things at the Council.
