..."We believed that the excitement in the field would come from integrating a variety of modalities, both for molecular imaging as well as translational medicine," says Sudeep Chandra, PhD, the company's director of imaging sciences.
The center was also seen as a way of riding the wave of the emerging trend toward translational medicine, a field to which the imaging sciences could make a "significant contribution," Chandra
, the center has seven dedicated researchers housed under one roof."It was recognized very early on that a consolidated knowledge base as well as a technology base would be very valuable, and the impact would be felt across therapeutic areas, so that's how we built it."
Areas of focusThe use of imaging tools has focused on particular areas, says Chandra
.Micro-PET has been used mainly for cancer studies.
"Whenever we are interested in pathway markers, whether that's gene expression or enzyme activation or protein-ligand interactions, that is where we will find the maximum utility for the optical tools," Chandra
